Zygote Intra-fallopian Transfer (ZIFT)
Zygote Intra-fallopian Transfer (ZIFT) is a technique that combines IVF with a tubal transfer (GIFT & TET). After the egg retrieval, fertilisation takes place in the laboratory with the female patient partner's sperm. Transfer takes palce one day after fertilisation, at one-cell or zygote stage.
All fallopian tube transfers such as GIFT, TET, ZIFT involves laparoscopy. Laparoscopy involves a small incision in the abdomen, through which a thin instrument, called a laparoscope, is inserted to ensure the mixture is deposited in the right place. The procedure takes place under a local anesthetic and the patient should be able to go home the same day.
